Every conversation on Buzz is end-to-end encrypted from the moment you start typing. There are no settings to enable, no premium tiers to unlock — encryption is the baseline, not a feature toggle. Text messages, voice notes, images, videos, and documents are all covered automatically.

European data hosting

Your data is stored on servers located within the European Union, protected by some of the strongest privacy regulations in the world. GDPR compliance is built into the infrastructure, not stapled on as an afterthought. This means your data cannot be accessed by foreign intelligence programmes or transferred outside the EU without your knowledge.

No metadata harvesting

Most messaging apps encrypt your message content but still collect metadata — who you talk to, when, how often, and from where. Buzz minimises metadata collection by design. We do not build advertising profiles, sell behavioural data, or share contact graphs with third parties.

You hold the keys

Encryption keys are generated and stored on your devices, not on our servers. This means even the Buzz team cannot read your messages. If a server were ever compromised, attackers would find only ciphertext — unintelligible without the keys that only you and your recipients possess.

What end-to-end encryption actually means

End-to-end encryption (E2EE) ensures that messages are encrypted on the sender's device and can only be decrypted on the recipient's device. No intermediary — not the network provider, not the platform operator, not any government — can read the content in transit or at rest on our servers. Buzz uses modern cryptographic protocols to generate unique session keys for every conversation, so compromising one thread does not expose any other. This is fundamentally different from transport-layer encryption, which only protects data between your device and the server, leaving messages readable on the server side.

Why most apps don't encrypt properly

Many popular messaging platforms advertise encryption but implement it selectively. Some only encrypt one-to-one chats while leaving group conversations exposed. Others encrypt messages but store decryption keys on their own servers, giving themselves — and anyone who breaches those servers — full access. The reason is economics: platforms that rely on advertising need to read your messages to build profiles. Buzz has no advertising business model, which means there is no incentive to weaken encryption. Privacy is our product, not a marketing checkbox.

European hosting as a second layer of protection

Encryption protects the content of your messages, but hosting location matters for everything around them. European data centres operate under GDPR, which gives you the legal right to access, correct, and delete your data. It also prevents bulk data transfers to jurisdictions with weaker protections. By combining E2EE with EU-based infrastructure, Buzz creates two independent layers of defence — even if one were somehow circumvented, the other remains intact. For organisations operating under regulatory frameworks like DORA, NIS2, or industry-specific compliance requirements, this dual-layer approach simplifies audits and risk assessments.

Encryption for businesses and communities

Enterprise messaging often forces a choice between compliance and privacy. Buzz removes that trade-off. Business accounts benefit from the same encryption as personal users, with additional controls for key management and audit logging that satisfy compliance teams without creating backdoors. Community channels and group chats with thousands of members remain encrypted, so even large-scale conversations stay private. Administrators can manage members and moderate content through metadata-level controls without ever needing access to decrypted message content.
